Before lightening your GPX
How can I reduce a GPX file size?
Upload your file, choose a mode and start processing. The recommended mode removes data you do not need to follow the route without removing any points. Compare the results and download the GPX with your account.
Is this ZIP compression?
No. The result remains a GPX file for applications that support this format. No unzipping is needed.
Which data is preserved?
Without simplification, all route points, coordinates and elevations are preserved, along with segments, waypoints and standard GPX fields. Extra data such as heart rate and cadence is removed. Your original remains untouched.
Can simplification change elevation gain?
Yes. Optional simplification removes redundant points with a route tolerance of 2 metres and an elevation tolerance of 1 metre. If the difference exceeds 1% of distance or 2% of ascent or descent, the tool keeps every point and only cleans up the file. Compare distance, ascent and descent before choosing this result. Displayed metrics do not include Elyps final elevation corrections.
Should I keep my original file?
Yes, keep your original so you can use it again. Download the lighter version before closing the page: the result will not be saved.
What are the limits and do I need an account?
The tool accepts up to 100 MiB and 500,000 route points. Analysis is public; downloading requires an account with a verified email. Complete your runner profile later. Elyps race import remains limited to 35 MiB and 200,000 points.
